📘 What is It
Peach, orange, and lemongrass iced tea (Trà đào cam sả) is a classic Vietnamese beverage made from peach tea infused with fresh lemongrass and mixed with cold-pressed orange juice.
There are many different ways to make this type of tea. Coffee shops will often rely on the use of syrups, for ease of use. However, it’s possible to make it at home with only fresh ingredients. Let us show you how!
🍑 Ingredient Notes
It couldn’t be easier to make this peach, orange, and lemongrass iced tea. Here are the ingredients that you will need:
- Peach tea bags – We went with peach-flavored tea bags. Note: If you are worried about the caffeine content, you can make this tea caffeine-free by using herbal tisanes.
- Lemongrass stalks – Lemongrass is the superstar ingredient that adds a unique, citrusy, slightly minty, and aromatic flavor to the tea. Use fresh lemongrass stalks and slightly crush them with a pestle to release their flavors.
- Orange juice – For a hint of tanginess and a subtle orange aroma.
- Canned peaches – For garnishing (optional). A quick tip: add a few teaspoons of the peach syrup from the can to your tea for extra sweetness and peach flavor.
- Sugar – To sweeten. You can use maple syrup, agave, or honey if you are not vegan.
- Ice cubes – Optional, but we highly recommend serving it with ice.
🥣 How to Make It
- Crush the lemongrass stalks. Cut the lemongrass stalks in half and slightly crush them using the side of a large knife. Crushing the stalks helps them release more flavor.
- Infuse the water. Fill a medium-sized saucepan with 3 cups of water. Place the lemongrass stalks in the saucepan. Bring to a boil and let simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Strain. Next, remove from heat and discard the lemongrass stalks.
- Add the tea. Add the peach tea bags to the saucepan and let it infuse for about 5 minutes. Once this is done, discard the peach tea bags and let the tea cool for about 30 minutes.
- Squeeze the orange. In the meantime, cut the orange in half. Squeeze out the juice by hand or by using a citrus reamer. You should get about 1/2 cup of orange juice.
- Combine. Finally, pour the orange juice into the lemongrass-infused tea and stir to combine. Add the sugar and stir until it has dissolved. Note: We recommend starting with only half of the sugar and adding more to taste.
- Serve. To serve, fill a glass with ice cubes, canned peaches, and a slice of orange. Pour in the tea, garnish with a few leaves of mint, and enjoy!
📔 Tips
- Adjust the sweetness to taste. Our iced tea is quite sweet by itself. This is a choice as it will be diluted when you serve it with ice cubes. If you do not plan on serving it with ice, we recommend lowering the amount of sugar by 1-2 tablespoons, depending on your liking.
- Use fresh orange juice. For optimal flavor, use freshly squeezed orange juice.
