- Coconut sugar – For extra sweetness and, again, to add a hint of caramel aroma.
- Cornstarch – It helps thicken the sauce. Alternatively, you can use arrowroot or tapioca starch.
- Ginger – I highly recommend using fresh ginger for optimal flavor. It brings a hint of spice and a citrusy aroma that pairs wonderfully with the pears.

You will need just 10 minutes and about 30 minutes of baking to make these delicious baked pears.
- Prepare the pears. Start by peeling the pears. Halve them and remove the core.
- Arrange them in a baking dish. Place the pear halves cut side down in a large baking dish.
- Make the syrup. Next, prepare the syrup by combining maple syrup, coconut sugar, water, cornstarch, and minced ginger in a small bowl.
- Combine. Pour the syrup over the pears into the baking dish.
- Bake. Bake the pears in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until tender. Then, flip them and place them under the broiler for a few minutes to caramelize them slightly.

Roasted Pears in Ginger Syrup
Ingredients
- 3 medium pears
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 tbsp coconut sugar
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/2 tsp cornstarch
- 1- inch fresh ginger minced
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 °F (200°F).
- Peel and halve the pears. Remove the core and place them cut-side down in a large baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine the maple syrup, coconut sugar, water, cornstarch, and minced ginger. Pour the syrup over the pears into the baking dish.
- Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the pears are soft and cooked. Remove from the oven, flip the pears and place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes or until slightly caramelized.
- Serve warm or cold, and top with crushed peanuts and a dollop of coconut cream or vanilla ice cream. Baked pears will keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.

I made this using organic bosc pears, which I did not peel to retain all the goodness, and used raw sugar as that is what I had on hand. My guests opted for no nuts, as we had other desserts, but I would serve it with chopped pecans over peanuts, although I’m sure any nut would be good. I also added cinnamon, as it is very cold here. It was perfection. Everyone loved it! Tastes like much more work than it is.
